The Snake Cam is a unique flexible camera system with a waterproof camera (to a depth of 30m) which can be used in a wide range of survey applications. Originally designed for Search and Rescue and security operations, Snake Cam lets biologists inspect difficult to reach places and search for bats, martens, birds, nests and aquatic life.
The basic system includes the camera, which has inbuilt cold LED lights, camera wand, hand held TFT display unit, carry case, cables, and accessories.
The colour monitor has a rotating screen so that, regardless of the camera orientation, the picture can always be viewed the 'right way up'. Images can be recorded to a laptop or audiovisual recorder. The monitor unit is also available with optional built-in recorder so you can save video and still images to SD card in the field without the need for an external device.
The Snake Cam is a fully modular system and alternative camera heads are available, for example an infrared camera for viewing in complete darkness. A miniature camera on a 7mm flexible cable can be directly attached to the system for viewing inside narrow apertures. The Snake Cam can also be connected via a C-mount camera directly to most models of borescope or fibrescope, including ProVision, Visual Optics and Hawkeye.
Attach one of the three telescopic poles available and you can use the camera at heights of up to 7.8m. The telescopic poles are made of lightweight but strong carbon fibre and allow you to inspect high and difficult to reach spaces without using a ladder. The camera at the top of the pole can be adjusted from the bottom of the pole, so it can be tilted to look down into tree holes. If deep inspection of a hole is required, simply attach the miniature camera or fibrescope and lower into the hole.
The Snake Cam system is available in three different kits with the option of a built-in recorder in the display unit. The Basic Kit includes the monitor, camera with wand, cables and batteries. For bat work we recommend the High Inspection Kit which adds a telescopic pole, extension cable and pole accessories. The RBW Kit includes long-life rechargeable batteries and waterproof and protective accessories for use in long surveys or challenging environments. Most parts of the flexible Snake Cam system are also available separately so you can built up your kit to meet your own requirements.
